Hi, my name is Sam Pieter Janssens. I was born & raised in Brussels, Belgium (°1980). My stage name is Clairval. I compose, score and release original music for film, TV and ads.
I live together with my wife and two children in a cozy house near Brussels.

It all began with me playing the drums at a very young age (5). At first I played along with the radio using knitting needles. After studying drums for a few years, I wanted to play melodies as well and I studied classical guitar for about 8 years.
I listened to old blues, pop & rock - from my older brother’s record collection - and got hooked to record my own music on a Tascam 4-track recorder. I learned to play keys and bass so I could be a one-man-band. At the same time, exploring sounds was very interesting to me.
During Covid-lockdown I’ve produced my own podcast series and now I love working on podcasts (recording, editing, composing music, …).
Today I have a little home studio. It’s my paradise on earth.

I had the opportunity to score a feature film, the teenage horror movie FOMO, and it’s what I want to do more often, for sure. Reading a script, meeting the director, discussing the sound of the story, the score of the film, collaborating with the editor, working with a whole team to get the best possible result. It’s really exciting when every piece of the puzzle falls into place.
